Using eNPS as a Reportable Demographic
Important: For surveys created before July 3, 2026, the eNPS question must be manually linked to an eNPS demographic to report by Promoters, Passives, and Detractors.
For surveys created on or after July 3, 2026, the eNPS demographic is automatically created when a supported People Element eNPS question is included in the survey. No manual demographic conversion is required.
What does an eNPS reportable demographic do?
Your overall eNPS score tells you the balance of Promoters and Detractors in your organization. Making eNPS a reportable demographic takes this analysis a step further by allowing you to break out the rest of your survey results by Promoters, Passives, and Detractors.
For example, you can compare how Promoters and Detractors responded to other questions in your survey to better understand the experiences that may be contributing to their likelihood to recommend your organization.
Which eNPS question should I use?
To report by Promoters, Passives, and Detractors, include one of People Element's eNPS questions from the question library:
5-point scale – Culture category
"I would recommend this organization as a good place to work."
- Promoters = 5
- Passives = 4
- Detractors = 1–3
10-point scale – NPS category
"How likely would you be to recommend the organization as a good place to work?"
- Promoters = 9–10
- Passives = 7–8
- Detractors = 1–6
Responses of 0 or N/A are not included in the eNPS calculation.
Surveys Created On or After July 3, 2026: Automated eNPS Demographic
When you include one of the supported eNPS library questions in a new survey, People Element automatically creates the eNPS demographic. No additional setup or demographic conversion is required.
The automated demographic can be found in the Automated Demographics section of the Demographics page.
By default:
- The demographic is named eNPS.
- Display in Reports is turned on.
- The demographic includes Promoters, Passives, and Detractors.
You can change the display name if you would like eNPS to appear under a different name in reporting. You can also turn Display in Reports off in the Demographics page of the platform if you do not want eNPS available as a demographic breakout.
Once enough responses have been collected, eNPS will become available as a demographic in reporting. You can then use Promoters, Passives, and Detractors to break out and compare results across the rest of your survey.
Note: If your survey contains both supported eNPS questions, the 10-point eNPS question will be used to determine the automated demographic.
The automated eNPS demographic is available across supported survey types, including custom surveys. Manager 360 surveys are not supported.
Surveys Created Before July 3, 2026: Manual Setup
Surveys created before July 3, 2026 are not automatically updated with the eNPS demographic. If you want to break out reporting by Promoters, Passives, and Detractors for one of these surveys, you will need to manually create and link an eNPS demographic.
You will need to create the eNPS demographic before you can link it to the question within your survey. Here is an article on how to create this demographic.
